The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of Uppsala University’s largest departments, with around 400 employees, of which around 125 are doctoral students. The department conducts world-class research and education in both theoretical and experimental physics and has extensive collaboration with the outside world. The research is carried out in 14 research programs and touches on everything from the incredibly small to the extremely large in, for example, energy supply, climate development, new materials, and the universe. This whole spectrum of research is also reflected in the department’s courses and educational programs. Every year, around 2.500 students study courses at bachelor’s and master’s level at the department. Read more at https://www.uu.se/en/department/physics-and-astronomy.
The postdoc scholarship is to conduct research within the Quantum Matter Theory research program, with interests spanning from strongly correlated, superconducting, and topological states of matter to quantum information. The project will be carried out in the research group of Prof. Annica Black-Schaffer, currently consisting of twelve Ph.D. students and postdocs, with research interests further detailed on the Research pages.
We are seeking up to two highly motivated and well-qualified researchers holding a Ph.D. degree in condensed matter theory, or equivalently. Ability to perform both analytical and numerical work is beneficial. The successful candidates should be able to independently take responsibility for specific research projects but also work well in teams. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. The scholarship is for 2 years, with the possibility of additional extension depending on scientific progress.
The application should include
1) Cover letter
2) CV
3) Publication list
4) Statement of research interests
5) List (including email addresses) of up to three references
and should be sent as a single PDF file to annica.black-schaffer@physics.uu.se with keyword Postdoc2024 in the subject line.
Review of applications will begin after October 21st 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
Uppsala University is striving to achieve a more even gender balance and women are especially encouraged to apply.
