Postdoc Scholarship Position(s) in Quantum Matter Theory

The positions are within the Quantum Matter Theory research program, with research focusing on condensed matter where quantum mechanical effects in a very prominent way determine the properties. The research activities span many contemporary parts of physics, such as unconventional superconductivity, topological matter, non-equilibrium phenomena in nanosystems, strongly correlated systems, and quantum information. The program belongs to the division of Materials Theory which offers a world-class environment for materials theory research, currently consisting of approximately 80 active researchers, of which approximately a third are Ph.D. students. The project will be carried out in the research group of Prof. Annica Black-Schaffer, currently consisting of twelve Ph.D. students and postdocs.

The overall aim of the research is to gain deeper and fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms and properties of topological and unconventional superconductivity and other ordered states of matter. Current larger projects in the group are focused on using nanoscale inhomogeneity to create and enhance superconductivity, in the form of disorder, quasicrystals, moiré patterns, or superconducting phase modulations, as well as using non-Hermitian effects to promote electronic ordering, including superconductivity. The importance of quantum geometry is also studied, including for flat band systems. For more information, please visit the group webpage: materials-theory.physics.uu.se/black-schaffer.

We are seeking up to two highly motivated and well-qualified researchers holding a Ph.D. degree in condensed matter theory, or equivalently. Ability to perform both analytical and numerical work is beneficial. The successful candidates should be able to independently take responsibility for specific research projects but also work well in teams. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. The scholarship is initially for 2 years, with the possibility of additional extension depending on scientific progress.

The application should include
1) Cover letter
2) CV
3) Publication list
4) Statement of research interests
5) List (including email addresses) of up to three references
and should be sent as a single PDF file to  annica.black-schaffer@physics.uu.se with keyword Postdoc2025 in the subject line.

Review of applications will begin after March 23rd 2025 and will continue until the positions are filled.

Uppsala University is striving to achieve a more even gender balance and women are especially encouraged to apply.
